In Memoriam

It is with heavy pain in our heart that we must inform you that our dearest Chulo suddenly lost strength in his hind legs last week. We visited the vet twice, but on the second day, even painkillers could not ease his pain. In his best interest, we decided to put him to sleep and find peace.

Chulo was an exceptionally sweet and gentle Galgo and friend. We miss him immensely..

Dear Sita,

Looking outside from your sofa and barking at passing dogs together with Marie, occasionally sprinting, gently opening doors with your paw, but most of all, sleeping lazily on your sofa. In the morning, Marie gave you generous kisses.

So unexpectedly and so unfairly, we had to say farewell. We are grateful for almost 12 wonderful years with us. Rest in peace, sweet girl. See you someday...

You were never sick, until last September, a persistent little cough that turned into a big cough. At first, we ignored it as nothing to worry about, until later when there was something between your lungs and heart, a tumor, the dreaded beast. We managed to keep it under control for a while, but in recent weeks, your condition deteriorated rapidly. Standing was difficult, walking was no longer possible. Three weeks ago, metastases appeared in your bone. You were but a shadow of your former self. We could not let you suffer like that; you did not deserve it.

You passed away peacefully in my arms at home in your own little place, with Mila at our side. For a moment, we were able to hold you and cuddle you. We can only be grateful that we had you with us.

Fonne, we will never forget you. Big hug, little prince, wherever you are.

It's with great sadness that we must announce that our Zena passed away on the 25^th of July.

When we adopted you in 2017, you came hopping along happily and you were everyone's friend. Once home, you clearly preferred your female companion, whom you followed everywhere. After a year with us, you started having difficulty walking, and it turned out you had a tumor in your knee. From then on, you had to go through life with one less leg, with the message that you probably would not live long. In the end, you lived seven more years. You always remained cheerful, affectionate, courageous, and present. You loved food and constantly reminded us of when it was dinnertime or treat time. Around New Year, you had a stroke from which you largely recovered, but you were still somewhat less mobile and fell occasionally. Suddenly, breathing became more difficult, and walking was almost impossible. After examination, it turned out you had a tumor on that golden heart of yours, and we had to let you go, let you go... We and your sister Milana are left with an empty basket.

Zena, you are so missed, and we will never forget you.

Thank you for the wonderful years we were able to spend with you.

(Zena born on the 15^th of June 15 2011, died on the 25^th of July 2025)

Our new life began on Wednesday, the 30^th of September 2015. We were supposed to pick you up at Marianne's house. How lucky! We could not wait, Papily, and I, to meet you. We left accompanied by your godmother, Annie. Thanks to her, we discovered galgos and decided to adopt. What a wonderful adventure... Thank you, Annie.

You gave us 10 years of HAPPINESS. Every day we shared intense moments. We were true partners... as I told you, “Among girls." Your two brothers have been mourning since you left, MY DEAR. We miss you so much that I cannot find the right words... Despite your absence, I always see you with us.

Sad news, Storm had to be put to sleep today... he was completely exhausted. He was found in an abandoned house in Salamanca, along with nine other puppies. For 13 years, he had a forever home here in Mollem. It was incredibly painful, but the right  decision because we did not want him to suffer... We thank you for saving such a precious dog. We will miss him so much.

Hello Bandhi,

Oh, what big ears you had but for us the reason to choose you. Yossie had made a human child of you.

Rob sang a song to find a safe home. Belinda wrote a book about you. We were allowed to share life with you for 10 years. You were such a sweet, emotional dog, scared that we would leave you.

Enthusiastic for a cookie, an example for our other greyhounds. A gentleman and a guardian angel for your ladies. That you would leave us so quickly, came like lightning on a clear day.

We will never forget you, you have placed a mark in our hearts. I hope you are doing well there over the rainbow bridge.

5 years ago, you came into my life. This after more than 7 years of staying in the shelter of Las Nieves, where you ended up at a young age after a large confiscation on a finca with dozens of other Podencos Campaneros in miserable condition.

Your body was now finished. Loving is letting go. Since this afternoon you have been a star, in good company up here.

And hopefully they also have mud baths there. See you later 
 

On Friday evening, the 17^th of January 2025, the veterinarian came to our house. Surrounded by her pack, Summer fell asleep gently, as she always did. This time not with a smile, but with a final deep sigh.

Summer enriched our family for seven years. Her love and presence will remain in our hearts forever. Saying goodbye is hard, but we are grateful for every day we were able to enjoy together.

Pandora (now Sookie) was adopted and taken along in Aalter on the 17^th of November 2012.

After a short illness she passed away peacefully on the 9th of January 2025 surrounded by all the necessary love from us and our vet Lisa.

She was almost never sick during her time with us, and she lived until the day she indicated that her time had come. With a brave age of 17 years and 7 months she has outlived many greyhounds from her birth generation.

Dearest Eniya,

my sweetheart, my little darling. On the 2^nd of January 2025 around 11:30h you put on your wings and walked over the rainbow bridge, towards your sisters, brother and owner. They will show you the way there. I knew it was coming because you were very ill, but I never expected it to be so sudden. The liver cancer had spread and that morning your condition deteriorated so much in less than 3 hours that when we arrived at the vet you were already going into shock.

You could no longer see anything and were in blind panic. You passed away peacefully in my arms. Your battle is over dear girl. You are no longer in pain. God, how I miss you, my little sweetheart. You turned 13.5 of which you were able to enjoy your basket here for 3.5 years, for which I am very grateful that I was given that opportunity. Run free, darling. We will see each other again someday, but this is so damn hard to bear. Rest in peace my sweet, sweet Eniya.

On the 18^th of January 2014, we went to pick you up in Aalter. You were very excited that you could come along. We were the best girlfriends. We had some wonderful moments. You have now become a beautiful star.

With pain in our hearts, I must unfortunately announce that Flix passed away (during his nap, without illness) on the 26^thof November 2024, and was cremated with much love and care at Hoka in Roeselare. It is comforting that Flix is ​​back home.

13 years old.

On the 21^st of March 2015 we were allowed to pick you up and give you your well-deserved golden basket. You immediately became friends with our papillon Trix, as well as our cat Smoothy. You loved to go for walks, but you could also enjoy lounging together on the couch. Last year was a bit more difficult. Arthrosis and heart problems appeared and a week before your farewell a large tumor was discovered that could not be treated anymore. You were brave until the end and you crossed the rainbow bridge here at home surrounded by us. You were a sweetheart dog, who will be missed very much by everyone. Thank you for the 10 wonderful and unforgettable years. Sira (our doll), you will always be in our hearts. ❤️

On the 9^th of March 2022, our Snoepie died in my arms, he was 16 years old, and we decided not to get another dog. However, without taking Pantera into account, we saw her on the site and lost our hearts, on the 29^th of 2022 she came to live with us. The best decision ever, she was 8 years old, and she went everywhere with us. Five months after Pantera, who we named Cato, I immediately fell in love with Canello Dos, we decided that one dog was not enough and adopted him and gave him the name Casper. We were so happy with those two, went for walks, car rides and they both enjoyed it to the fullest. Catootje, calm and Casper full of energy despite his no longer being young. On October 4, we had to say goodbye to our Catootje after we had already said goodbye to our Casper the day before. The loss of our two treasures is so great, the pain we feel immense. After all this time I can only cry for these two special creatures who came into our lives barely two years ago. Within a week and a half, we lost them both, Catootje 10 years old and Casper 9 years old. Cato had pancreatitis, and was under control, but suddenly things went wrong and despite the efforts of our vet, the infusion and the medication went wrong. Casper had breathing problems, after examination in the Quadrant in Herfelingen he turned out to have a huge tumor in his heart and barely two days later metastases. We saw him deteriorate so much and letting him go was the only option. They both died in my arms. My husband came home yesterday after three weeks in hospital and for him it was also difficult to come home to a house without our long legs. 🥲

In March 2016, I was allowed to adopt Geronimo (I called him Gero). Mireille called him a shy boy. I saw him, he looked straight into my eyes, and we had a bond. He did not immediately trust the outside world but at home he was great, so sweet, so affectionate, such a cuddly toy, sometimes very silly with the toy basket. He was always very close so that he could always see me. 

When he did not see me, he came looking for me. We were inseparable day and night. We experienced so many beautiful things, took so many beautiful walks. But 2 weeks ago, he stopped eating. He was seriously ill. Today 16/09/2024, I had to let him go. What extreme sadness, what emptiness. But I am grateful for 8.5 wonderful years together.

As a little puppy you came into our lives in November 2018, a day we will never forget, a dream come true. From day 1 you were a big teddy bear, a crazy dog, a diva, in short, a real lady with tricks. You knew how to use your sweet, cute puppy eyes to get your way every time, puppy or not, the years that followed your eyes remained your greatest asset. With great pain in our hearts, we had to let you go but until the last moment you also knew how to comfort us with your sweet face and soft licks.

I often called her our little bee because she was the smallest one on the adoption day.  Even though she did not know me, she came lying down next to me on the sofa from the first minute on and she did so for 5 long months during my recovery. During the 7 beautiful years she fully enjoyed  life and she let us enjoy it also. She was a gorgeous and soft animal with a golden heart.
