In Memoriam

On Friday, September 11, our sweet, gentle Martin passed away. His mind was still sharp, but his body just would not cooperate. Martin was the gentlest, sweetest, and calmest dog. A big giant with a small, gingerbread heart. Together with his brother Seppe, who passed away 7 months ago, he now runs happily and freely across the Rainbow Bridge. But how they are missed......

It is with great sadness that we let you know that today the 17^th of August 2026 we had to say goodbye to our Lena, who came to us on the 18^th of May 2019. She was one with a lot of baggage, as we learned from your staff when we came to pick her up; they were concerned. We let Lena recover at her own pace and explore everything in her own way. We had to be very patient to gain her trust. Even though she was quiet, she sometimes showed in her own way that she was happy and content. When our little Tina joined us, she still played a bit, though somewhat hesitantly. It was as if she was wondering if that was allowed. She always expanded her boundaries step by step, and now, at the very end, she came seeking more contact, as if asking... She lost a lot of weight towards the end and did not want to eat kibble anymore, nor did wet food. The only thing she still wanted was boiled or fried chicken, so that is what she got. Because she was not eating much, she became weak, so we called the vet. He examined her and said she had a tumor near her liver, and it was already large. We made the hard decision to have her put to sleep so that she would not have to suffer. Now she is with her sisters who went before her. May you rest in peace above. We will continue to love you, dearest Lena.

With this, you are informed of her passing. Keep doing what you are so good at: rescuing dogs and giving them a better life. Thank you for allowing us to have her in our lives.

Dear Fluppe,

Today was the day I had to let you go. I still cannot believe it. So sudden. Unexpected.

You came to us as a puppy, along with your sister. Shy and scared. I slept downstairs with you for months, relieved occasionally by one of the children. We have come a long way. I cried when things did not work out. I laughed when I could finally touch you after months.

Fluppe, you were such a beautiful boy. Sweet and gentle. A true gentleman. My gentleman. From a shy boy, you became a real cuddle bear. On the sofa, you would come and sit next to me and ask for attention by putting your paw on me.

They say dogs cannot talk. You could. At a ray of sunshine, you would look at me and then look at your bed. And then I knew that you wanted to lie in your bed in the sun. If you wanted to go for a walk and the wait took too long, you would come and stand in front of us and bark to get attention. Then we knew: yes, we must leave now.

Fluppe, you were a dog with character. You dragged me through a very difficult period when I had to let Santana and Pablo go. I am going to miss you so much, sweet Fluppe. Your pack mates, your sister, and our family will comfort each other when the loss becomes too great.

I hope to see you again someday, to cuddle you. Go ahead and cross the rainbow. Run. Without pain.

We will miss you so much down here. But I know now that you are pain-free. Run free, my gentleman.

You are in my heart forever. Thank you for the thirteen beautiful years that I was allowed to be your adoptive mom.

Dear Sortija, after a difficult start with your adoption, you ended up with us. You, the oh-so-dangerous dog, who was returned after just 3 hours of adoption. As if you were not meant to find happiness, having to travel a long road through corona and then the adoption itself. Some take a detour, Mireille used to say, before they find a good home. Well, how happy you were with us. A friend to everyone. And how you could laugh, so beautiful. Your sweet laugh and your enthusiasm. Unfortunately, fate struck too, when you turned out to have leishmania. You were so sick. But you pulled through. And everything was kept under control by those amazing veterinarians of ours. Together, we could take on the whole world. And suddenly… you started panting and within half an hour you were gone. Heartbreaking… but oh so grateful for all those beautiful moments together. We will see each other again someday, sweetie. Until we meet again, and forever deep in our hearts.

With great pain and sorrow, I had to say farewell to Sarafien this morning.

Her little body was worn out, and she was in too much pain. Thank you for giving me the chance to give her another 8 beautiful years. Sarafien was estimated to be 14 years old.

With immense sadness and regret in our hearts, I must inform you of the decease of our Noisette on Friday, July 24, 2026. 'Zetje's' heart gave out, and with love, we had to let her put to sleep at the age of 13. The loss is so great, and at the same time, we are so grateful that she was allowed to be a part of our lives for nearly five and a half years. We are so happy that, after eight years, we were able to give her a loving home and a princess’s life.

Noisetje was our first Galgo and has infected us with 'galgonitis' for life.

Jack passed away suddenly on the 1^st of July 2026

You were exactly 11.5 years old. You were with us for 3,757 days.

You spent about 3,400 days with your little brother Jeff. You were our 1st dog.

You were one in a thousand: intelligent, mischievous, cheerful, sweet, enthusiastic, sensitive, affectionate, social, playful, friendly, curious. Together we traversed Europe and walked roughly the equivalent of walking around the earth in terms of kilometers.

Our grief, including that of your little brother Jeff, is immeasurable!

The love for you is infinite! You will remain our treasure forever!

On May 4th, we had to have Iris put to sleep.

We adopted Elodie in June 2020 after the pandemic, but we had already booked a vacation. At Mireille's request, we decided to go ahead with the adoption in June after all, and on Mireille's recommendation, she was taken to Rosa Canina during our 10-day vacation. And there was Iris, who had already been returned 3 months ago because she had epilepsy.

Because we thought she would not have much of a chance of being adopted again, we decided to adopt her as well. That was very good for Elodie, because she really blossomed thanks to Iris. Iris was super social and a bit of the boss over Elodie.

Iris was born on May 1, 2015, and passed away on May 4, 2026.

Amelie, our sweet Galgo, has passed away. The veterinarian and we supported her until the very last moment. We are grateful for 10 years of companionship that we were able to share together. It feels strange without her…

Yesterday, Saturday, the 7^th of February 2026, our Seppe passed away peacefully.

His little body was exhausted. According to his passport, he was born on the 1^st of April 2012.

When you saw him, Mireille named him Theophile, the imbecile. Because he was so playful and sociable. A real pickpocket. He had no problem opening the refrigerator and eating it empty...

His brother Martin and sisters, Mila & Trixie and we, will miss him immensely.

Ten years ago, you came into our lives. You were such a scared little dog, you crawled into the furthest corner of the couch. You'd been with us for eight months when we first heard your voice. But month by month, you gained more trust in us. The process was very slow. After a few years, you only went outside to snuggle in the sun.

We were so glad you made your own decisions. You wouldn't eat or drink unless I was there. Without even knowing it, you taught me patience and peace. Your mealtimes were my meditation moments.

Thank you for being my best friend for ten years.

We miss you terribly.

My dear friend, A little over 9 years ago, we decided to adopt you. You were there on Mom's birthday, even though you weren't quite ready yet.

Still a little worried and scared, but that didn't last long. You blossomed so much with us, but you never took a dip in the pool. From the moment we turned our backs in the kitchen, something was missing, and you thought to yourself, "Now you're out of luck."

A little meat here, a little candy there, you always managed! You're a dog with a heart of gold, sometimes a little eccentric. But what love you gave, and of course, you received from us too! Things haven't been going so well lately. You weren't that fluttering butterfly anymore. Heart problems here, thyroid gland problems there, today it was finally over.

You were completely exhausted, and your eyes said "stop." We made a difficult decision, that's something that deeply affects us all. So today it was time, for your farewell

We miss her immensely; it is so empty and quiet here in the house. But we are grateful we had her with us for over 14 years. She was a truly sweet and friendly little creature. Knowing that she had a good life and that she was very happy is a comfort.

Mimi was a special dog, afraid of people and especially children, but she blossomed completely around us. She needed a lot of attention, which we gave with love and joy. She always seduced us by looking at us with her beautiful eyes. We miss her immensely, but we could give her a beautiful farewell. We are now left with only wonderful and very, very beautiful memories of our little Mimie.

Dear Sita,

Looking outside from your sofa and barking at passing dogs together with Marie, occasionally sprinting, gently opening doors with your paw, but most of all, sleeping lazily on your sofa. In the morning, Marie gave you generous kisses.

So unexpectedly and so unfairly, we had to say farewell. We are grateful for almost 12 wonderful years with us. Rest in peace, sweet girl. See you someday...

You were never sick, until last September, a persistent little cough that turned into a big cough. At first, we ignored it as nothing to worry about, until later when there was something between your lungs and heart, a tumor, the dreaded beast. We managed to keep it under control for a while, but in recent weeks, your condition deteriorated rapidly. Standing was difficult, walking was no longer possible. Three weeks ago, metastases appeared in your bone. You were but a shadow of your former self. We could not let you suffer like that; you did not deserve it.

You passed away peacefully in my arms at home in your own little place, with Mila at our side. For a moment, we were able to hold you and cuddle you. We can only be grateful that we had you with us.

Fonne, we will never forget you. Big hug, little prince, wherever you are.

It's with great sadness that we must announce that our Zena passed away on the 25^th of July.

When we adopted you in 2017, you came hopping along happily and you were everyone's friend. Once home, you clearly preferred your female companion, whom you followed everywhere. After a year with us, you started having difficulty walking, and it turned out you had a tumor in your knee. From then on, you had to go through life with one less leg, with the message that you probably would not live long. In the end, you lived seven more years. You always remained cheerful, affectionate, courageous, and present. You loved food and constantly reminded us of when it was dinnertime or treat time. Around New Year, you had a stroke from which you largely recovered, but you were still somewhat less mobile and fell occasionally. Suddenly, breathing became more difficult, and walking was almost impossible. After examination, it turned out you had a tumor on that golden heart of yours, and we had to let you go, let you go... We and your sister Milana are left with an empty basket.

Zena, you are so missed, and we will never forget you.

Thank you for the wonderful years we were able to spend with you.

Our new life began on Wednesday, the 30^th of September 2015. We were supposed to pick you up at Marianne's house. How lucky! We could not wait, Papily, and I, to meet you. We left accompanied by your godmother, Annie. Thanks to her, we discovered galgos and decided to adopt. What a wonderful adventure... Thank you, Annie.

You gave us 10 years of HAPPINESS. Every day we shared intense moments. We were true partners... as I told you, “Among girls." Your two brothers have been mourning since you left, MY DEAR. We miss you so much that I cannot find the right words... Despite your absence, I always see you with us.

Sad news, Storm had to be put to sleep today... he was completely exhausted. He was found in an abandoned house in Salamanca, along with nine other puppies. For 13 years, he had a forever home here in Mollem. It was incredibly painful, but the right  decision because we did not want him to suffer... We thank you for saving such a precious dog. We will miss him so much.

Hello Bandhi,

Oh, what big ears you had but for us the reason to choose you. Yossie had made a human child of you.

Rob sang a song to find a safe home. Belinda wrote a book about you. We were allowed to share life with you for 10 years. You were such a sweet, emotional dog, scared that we would leave you.

Enthusiastic for a cookie, an example for our other greyhounds. A gentleman and a guardian angel for your ladies. That you would leave us so quickly, came like lightning on a clear day.

We will never forget you, you have placed a mark in our hearts. I hope you are doing well there over the rainbow bridge.

5 years ago, you came into my life. This after more than 7 years of staying in the shelter of Las Nieves, where you ended up at a young age after a large confiscation on a finca with dozens of other Podencos Campaneros in miserable condition.

Your body was now finished. Loving is letting go. Since this afternoon you have been a star, in good company up here.

And hopefully they also have mud baths there. See you later 
 

On Friday evening, the 17^th of January 2025, the veterinarian came to our house. Surrounded by her pack, Summer fell asleep gently, as she always did. This time not with a smile, but with a final deep sigh.

Summer enriched our family for seven years. Her love and presence will remain in our hearts forever. Saying goodbye is hard, but we are grateful for every day we were able to enjoy together.

Fam. Camps - Greunlinx

Pandora (now Sookie) was adopted and taken along in Aalter on the 17^th of November 2012.

After a short illness she passed away peacefully on the 9th of January 2025 surrounded by all the necessary love from us and our vet Lisa.

She was almost never sick during her time with us, and she lived until the day she indicated that her time had come. With a brave age of 17 years and 7 months she has outlived many greyhounds from her birth generation.
